Lincoln Square

The Lowdown: Lincoln Square

Back in the day (I’m talking way back) the neighborhood of Lincoln Square became a welcome refuge for residents looking to get away from the crowded neighborhoods of Chicago closer to downtown.  Fast forward to today and you’ll find Lincoln Square’s farms and pastures may be gone, but it still has the same peaceful and quaint appeal.

This popular neighborhood is located several blocks west of Andersonville and north of the western portion of Lakeview.  One of the best things about Lincoln Square is that it’s the kind of place that makes you feel like you’re just far enough away from all the craziness of city living to enjoy some peace and quiet, but you still have easy access to all the things that make city living great.

The Best of the Old and the New

Most of the action in Lincoln Square happens on Lincoln Avenue.  German bars and an old-fashioned German Apothecary mix in with cute clothing boutiques and upscale cafes favored by the locals – giving Lincoln Square cozy appeal. Plus, the neighborhood actually has a bona-fide square where casual concerts take place in the summer.

While the popularity of Lincoln Square has been on simmer for a while, these days it’s safe to say that the neighborhood is downright hot with new shops and restaurants popping up on the regular.

Lincoln Didn’t Sleep Here – But You Can

The housing stock in Lincoln Square leans heavily towards single-family homes.  Most of these houses are older homes, but occasionally you’ll stumble across a new construction house that has replaced a dilapidated teardown.

When it comes to condos, they are few and far between.  The majority of the neighborhood’s condo are located in new construction buildings located on Lincoln, Lawrence or Montrose Avenues.  Rentals can be found sprinkled throughout the side streets either in vintage six or two flat buildings.

Who Loves Lincoln Square?

The combination of neighborhood amenities and quiet sides streets put Lincoln Square at the top of the list for families and young professionals.  So if nose piercings and tattoos are more your speed, you might get a few strange looks, but that’s all.
