I can admit, I have earned my fair share of parking tickets over the years. However, last week I received an unjustifiable ticket and it got me wondering if the City of Chicago writes fraudulent tickets on the hopes that the some people won’t protest the ticket.
I was parked in front of my office on Grand Avenue in River North in a regular street parking spot. I have been parking on this same stretch of street for nearly four years now, so I know parking here is legal. Plus there is a meter box (if that is what you call those new fangled machines) and clearly marked street parking signs.
Anyway, I received a ticket for being double parked and missing a license plate! The ticket was $160.00. WTF? First, I wasn’t double parked. Second, my car has both front and rear plates. For the life of me, I can’t figure out why I received this parking ticket. Either the City of Chicago is engaging in wholesale fraud against parkers or the meter person is just down right retarded. I mean, there is no possible way this ticket could have been written accidentally.
Fortunately, I took pictures on my iPhone and have sent in the pictures of my car parked with the ticket on it. In light of the irrefutable evidence that this ticket was fraudulent, I am confident it will be thrown out. However, I still can’t figure out why the meter person would write the ticket. Again, there is absolutely no way this could be accidental so the only possible explanation is they write a few fraudulent tickets and hope they get by in the system.
